We challenged ourselves to make a stem that was innovative and classic at the same time. To accomplish this we made a list of what we wanted out of the stem.
The first things we wanted were practical.
We wanted to have a relatively high rise, we did not want our bars to move, and we wanted it strong enough to handle whatever we could throw at it.
This turned out to be the easier part. We made it with 35mm rise, we made an extra wide clamping area, then we built it out of 6061-t6 alloy and left enough meat on it to be confident that it could handle our abuse.
The next part was a little harder, to innovate a product that has been on the market for decades. We love the idea of having a clean load plate with the bolts through the bottom, but we did not like the look of having almost a one-inch tall load plate to accommodate the thread engagement.
In order to make the load plate the proper height, we made tapered pins on the bottom that fit into machined recesses in the body of the stem.
We are super stoked on how it turned out and the entire team has been riding this stem for an extended period of time with no problems.
